Tatum Austin has a reputation that proceeds her. Everyone in Carver, Georgia knows not to mess with the hot-headed, sharp-tongued, stunningly beautiful badass. And she likes it that way.

She wants nothing to do with the small town that has, against her will, forced football to become the center of her life. She hates that she’s not allowed to charge players for their meals at The End Zone where she waitresses. She hates that her stripper sister and washed up mom are still chasing their glory days as conquests of former football stars. She hates cheerleaders and despises the spirit girls who willingly do homework, make baked goods and drop to their knees for any man in a football uniform. She hates that football is the reason she lost her best friend, Brandon Eastman, when they were twelve. And she hates that she and the star linebacker, Nash Carter, have been in love since eighth grade.

So when she’s given the opportunity to become the new sports reporter for The Carver Observer she’s skeptical. Until she realizes she can use the paper to shed some well-deserved light on the negative aspects of the game that every small minded citizen around her worships.

Dragged back into the world of popular jocks and cheerleaders, Tatum’s unattainable bad-girl image begins to falter. Brandon is back in her life and seems hell-bent on reminding her why they used to be the center of each other’s worlds. And she can’t help that she misses the friendship she once had with him and his girlfriend, Summer, and that she wants them back in her life. Which is a problem because the series of articles that are finally getting her recognition as something other than one of the notorious Austin girls and Nash’s girlfriend, will surely take it all away from her again.

When secrets from their past are brought to the surface, Tatum, Nash, Brandon and Summer find themselves revisiting old wounds and forgotten feelings that have the potential to tear them apart for good or put them back together in a way they never imagined.

*A God in Carver is and older YA novel and contains adult language and sexual content.

Though this book can be read as a stand-alone, I read 'A Son of Carver' first. Oh man! Because I already knew the characters would end up together, it was still great to see how they got to that point in the next book. Sheesh! I definitely suggest reading this book before going to the next one, only so you don't spoil yourself. Phenomenal plot; amazing writing. Love it!

A God in Carver A Carver High Novel eBook Haven Francis Reviews

I was given the opportunity to read this novel and thought I'd give my honest to goodness review.

Tatum and Brandon's story is heartwrenching, and heartwarming. I personally think you're going to love or hate Nash, but in the end, you'll feel everything all the characters go through and you'll come out feeling like you were put through the ringer. There is a happily ever after, which I loved!
Haven's writing style is fun and intriguing, and I really hope you give this book a chance, and that you stick around to read book two!! *no spoilers, but you're gonna love it!*
I enjoyed this story. Consistently good throughout. Lots of mistakes but a good read.
Tatum, Summer, Brandon & Nashs messed up friendship of friends to lovers to enemies with betrayal, revenge & finding your true love again! If you love hs drama & love Tijans books then you will love this! A little longer than I would want.
I beta read this in October. Will write a full review after reading the finished product
(edit Sept 19th)
So I'm reviewing these out of order. After reviewing Son of Carver I realised that I hadn't this one. I waited to read it again since it had been so long.
I still love this story. Tatum is an amazing girl if a little off. It's not really her fault, as Brandon pointed out, it's all she knows.
Nash is a douche. A big manipulating conniving douche. It's a testament to Haven's writing that she was able to redeem him in the sequel.
Brandon was just Brandon. I don't really know what to say about him except he is a good guy.
Summer is too sweet. Like insanly sweet. I don't think I've ever heard of a more selfless person.
But if you love stories with lots of crazy high school drama I definitely recommend reading these books.
I really enjoyed this book. Tatum was a great protagonist and I liked her from the beginning; she said what she had to say and didn't value other people's opinions above her own. That type of confidence is difficult to come by in adult protagonists, and much less common in teenagers. Over the course of the book, she came to see that she had more choices in life than she'd originally believed, and I liked watching that realization happen. Brandon took longer to grow on me. His constant back and forth, even in his own mind, somewhat exhausted and annoyed me. Nash was a flat out jerk, but had enough humanity that I don't totally hate him. Maybe only 85% or so. I felt bad for Summer, but she felt more like a stock represenation of a two-dimensional good girl than a real person, so my sympathy for her was limited.

This book could do with a professional editor. While I continued to read this novel despite the many errors, I definitely found it annoying that "stared" and "started" were confused multiple times throughout the book, or that the author didn't know the difference between being "exacerbated" and "exasperated"/"sorted" and "sordid". These, along with all of the instances of misplaced punctuation, really pulled me out of what was going on and made me want to whip out a red pen. Still, the story told in this novel was captivating enough that I kept going, and I'm glad I did. The resolution was open-ended enough to keep me invested, and I'm looking forward to learning more about what comes next for Tatum and Brandon as I read the future installments in this series.
This was a really good story. I loved all the tension between Tatum and Brandon. The chemistry between them was awesome. There was some writing errors but the story was worth it!
I really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it. There are a few typos "sprit" instead of "spirit" or "weather" instead of "whether". I point them out only to say ignore them. This is a really well done story. It stands on its own, but I am excited to read the next book in the series.
Love it!
